Comatour Devlog 6 – The Training Arc Begins
5/28/2022
Hello all, and welcome back to the devlog!
This devlog is going to be short, since it’s more talking about what I’m going to be doing, rather than what I’ve been doing. So, let’s just get into it:

Over the past couple weeks, I’ve been working on improving my art/animation skills. The new style I’ve decided on for Comatour is going to require a good bit of competence to get looking decent. So, I’ve resolved to take some time off from the main project to improve my own ability with the pen.
Ultimately, the goal is to hire an artist or two to take over for me after the crowdfunding campaign, so I can focus the majority of my efforts towards putting the game together. That said: I still need to not only establish the art-style moving forward, but also be (at least) skilled enough to make a decent looking demo. Not to mention, being able to make my own concept-art for the animators would be a tremendous boon to the project.
Outside of the art, I also have to sharpen my skills with coding a bit.
I have some pretty intricate systems in the works for Comatour, so broadening my horizons a bit in the programming department is a must. Of course, once I have that extra knowledge I’m lacking, I’m confident I can deliver a rogue-like no other (get it?!).
Jokes aside, what I have planned for Comatour is something that I’ve never quite seen done before. It’s definitely not going to be your standard rogue-like. However, before I can deliver on (or even make) these vague promises, I have to improve as a developer.
So, what does this mean for the project?
Well, it’s going on a hiatus for a little bit. My initial estimate is that I’ll be in good enough shape to continue development-proper in a couple months. Though, part of the issue is that I don’t know what I don’t know, so I can’t really provide an accurate estimate for how long I’ll need.
The devlogs are going to be either really slow or non-existent in the foreseeable future. But, once I’m back into it, I’ll drop a massive devlog explaining all I’ve been up to and revealing Comatour’s new aesthetic.
I look forward to showing it off! Until next time!
